Screen USA offers the excellent Cezanne Elite scanner.

We met the president of ScreenUSA at IPEX 2002 tradeshow, but otherwise do not have any personal experience with this scanner, nor do we know any dealers. He indicated that their Cezanne scanner did well in the Seybold comparative test of high-end prepress scanners. That is a good indication since several other scanners fared poorly in Seybold tests, such as Imacon.

At DRUPA 2004 the scanner was either abandoned with no attendant whatsoever, or when an attendant was present, he said he was busy. So this is why we don't have any Screen scanners in either of our university evaluation facilities.

So far the two prepress flatbeds which we have tested in person are the Fuji Lanovia C-550 and the Creo EverSmart Supreme. We got exceptional scan quality from both. We like the frequent upgrades of the Scitex (now Creo ) software. Fuji equipment has the advantage of being able to handle three-dimensional objects.

Now that FLAAR has spacious new facilities at two universities we will be able to handle more scanners in-house, so check back after Photokina 2004 to see which prepress flatbed scanners we have decided to feature.

We do not know any Fuji or Screen dealer but can recommend a reliable place that offers Creo prepress scanners. This is Parrot Digigraphic. They work with universities, libraries, museums, prepress shops, print shops, and photographers: contact e-mail imaging@parrotcolor.com, fax (978) 670-7744, Tel (978) 670-7766.
