The era of DVD-RAM has arrived.

DVD-RAM is the first flavor of DVD technology which offers, today, fully available, a DVD burner and player that can hold 5.2 GB. Other kinds of DVD recorders cost $5,000. A Panasonic DVD-RAM burner costs about $700 and media is about $40 (it would cost over $500 to store this much material on Zip disks!). What is DVD-RAM? Read onward.

Their kinds of 4.6 and 5.2 GB drives cost about $1,300 for the drive and over $120 just for a single disk. A Panasonic DVD-RAM writer/reader is half the cost for the drive, and many times more economical for the disk.

Besides, hardly anyone uses the direct overwrite 5.2 drives, and Apex 4.6 GB drives are being phased out (Pinnacle Micro).

Summary: DVD-RAM is the storage technology which is replacing simple CD disks (which of course hold only 650 MB).

The DVD burner software just arrived a day ago, so it will take us a while to finish testing it, since all kinds of other hardware and software also arrived in our test center. DVD-RAM is based on PD dual Phasewriter technology which was already proven in the mid 1990's.
